Investigating the dynamics of fission with low-fissility highly-excited nuclei

چکیده
Total fission cross sections and charge distributions of the final fission fragments have been measured at GSI in inverse kinematics for the reactions 208Pb+ p,d at 500AMeV and 182Ta+ p at 300, 500, 700 and 1000AMeV. These data are used to investigate dissipative and transient effects at low deformation and its possible dependences with temperature and fissility.

Fragmentation of Spherical Radioactive Nuclei as a Novel Probe of Transient Effects in Fission
The escape from a metastable state is a problem that appears in many various fields such as fluid mechanics, chemistry or nuclear physics. Systems that are initially out of equilibrium display a transient behaviour during which relaxation in all degrees of freedom takes place. The proper understanding of transient effects occurring before a quasi-equilibrium is reached is important due to their...
متن کاملKEWPIE2: A cascade code for the study of dynamical decay of excited nuclei
KEWPIE — a cascade code devoted to investigating the dynamical decay of excited nuclei, specially designed for treating very low probability events related to the synthesis of super-heavy nuclei formed in fusion-evaporation reactions — has been improved and rewritten in C++ programing language to become KEWPIE2. The current version of the code comprises various nuclear models concerning the lig...
متن کاملMeasurement of the fusion probability, PCN, for hot fusion reactions
Background: The cross section for forming a heavy evaporation residue in fusion reactions depends on the capture cross section, the fusion probability, PCN, i.e., the probability that the projectile-target system will evolve inside the fission saddle point to form a completely fused system rather than reseparating (quasifission), and the survival of the completely fused system against fission. ...

Shapes and Fissility of Highly Charged and Rapidly Rotating Levitated Liquid Drops.
We use diamagnetic levitation to investigate the shapes and the stability of free electrically charged and spinning liquid drops of volume ∼1 ml. In addition to binary fission and Taylor cone-jet fission modes observed at low and high charge density, respectively, we also observe an unusual mode which appears to be a hybrid of the two. Measurements of the angular momentum required to fission a ...
